Kokrajhar University
Kokrajhar University, formerly known as Kokrajhar Govt. College, was established in 1959 at the heart of Kokrajhar town with the noble vision of making higher education accessible to all, particularly to the tribal communities of the region. Since its inception, the University has played a pivotal role in imparting quality education to socio-economically disadvantaged groups as well as other communities, thereby contributing significantly to social upliftment.
Guided by the mission of developing human resources and fostering sustainable development through quality higher education, Kokrajhar University emphasizes value-based education as the foundation of learning.
At the undergraduate level, the University offers honours courses across a wide range of disciplines, including Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Economics, Education, English, Geography, Hindi, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, and Zoology. Currently, there are twenty active academic departments.
In addition, the University offers postgraduate programs in Assamese, Bodo, Economics, English, Mathematics, History, Physics and Chemistry, along with a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication, reflecting its commitment to academic excellence and professional skill development.

Kokrajhar University is equipped with well-structured academic and administrative facilities to support holistic learning and growth. The campus includes an Administrative Block, two Arts Blocks (Block A & Block B), a Science Block (Block C), a dedicated Library Building, four Assam-Type buildings and a College Canteen. For residential facilities, the University provides two Boys’ Hostels and one Girls’ Hostel, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for students.
Adding to the green charm of the campus, a Botanical Garden is located at the northeast corner, offering students and researchers a space for study and conservation. The University playground, shared with the Kokrajhar District Sports Association, serves as a hub for sports and recreational activities.
The pride of the institution, the Nilkamal Brahma Central Library—named after the distinguished alumnus and renowned Bodo litterateur stands as a knowledge hub. The library is housed in a spacious building with modern facilities such as RFID technology and internet access. Additionally, each department maintains its own library to facilitate teaching, learning, and research.
